Noreen C. Norton Granville, NY – Noreen Casey Norton, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 11:10 AM, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 8, 1927 in Glens Falls, NY the daughter of the late Daniel and Nora (Breen) Casey. Noreen was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy in Glens Falls in 1945. She married John Norton at St. Mary's Church on August 20, 1950. Together they celebrated 67 years of marriage. They had a family of eight children that were Noreen's pride and joy. Noreen worked for a few years doing Home Health Care and she was also formerly employed at the Glens Falls Insurance Company. She worked for many years at Wilson in Granville, but her most noted job was the Superintendent of Grounds in North Granville. She and John lived for a number of years in North Granville where she lovingly bossed her children and any other children that wandered into her yard. Prior to North Granville they lived on Pine Hill in Granville in a neighborhood that boosted 45 children. It goes without saying that there was never a dull moment in that neighborhood. The children were affectionately known as the "Pine Hill Gang". Many memories were shared about those crazy times including one incident where there was a fire in an outbuilding on their property. Noreen calmly dialed the phone and told dispatch that she needed "one firetruck, no lights or sirens at her Pine Hill address" very similarly to the manner one would have ordered take out. In a family such as theirs, there was never any shortage of memories, love, or crises, but all was part of life and none would have been traded for anything. Noreen will be remembered for her kind heart and intense love of her home and family. Noreen was very proud of her Irish heritage and had the opportunity to visit her family in Ireland. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Granville Democratic Committee and a communicant of St. Mary's Church. Her Catholic faith was a priority and guide through her entire life. She was predeceased by three sons: Kevin, William and Thomas Norton, a grandson Eric Norton, sons-in-law Glenn Wood and Steven Schinski, and siblings; Joseph, David, John, and Robert Casey and Ann C. Hayward. Survivors are her loving husband John and her children: Aileen Murauskos (Victor) of Hebron, John David Norton (Toby) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Ann Schinski of Wells, VT, Michael Norton of Boston, MA and Stephan Norton and his companion Rhonda of Granville. She was blessed with 19 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 1, 2017 at 1 PM at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 23 Bulkley Ave., Granville with the Rev. Joseph Arockiasamy presiding. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Middle Granville. The celebration of Noreen's life will continue following the burial at the K of C Hall on Park St. in Granville. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 30th from Noon – 3 PM at the Robert M King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, NY. The family wishes to recognize the staff at Indian River Nursing and Rehab. for the care and kindness shown to both Noreen and her family. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Haynes House of Hope, Indian River Activities fund, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery or the charity of one's choice.
