Eugene Bernard Fairbanks Granville, NY – Eugene Bernard Fairbanks, 82, died on October 14, 2017, at his home in Granville, NY. Born in Granville, Gene was the son of Eugene and Blodwyn (Hughes) Fairbanks. He was raised in West Pawlet, VT, and later moved to Granville. He graduated from Granville High School and received Bachelor and Master degrees from SUNY New Paltz. Gene served in the Cold War from 1957 to1959 and was stationed in Nuremburg, Germany. He was then employed as an Art Instructor for 31 years in the Wappingers Central School District in Dutchess County, NY. Gene is survived by his wife Cinthia (Harbach) Fairbanks, and their daughter Shelley. He is also survived by the children of his first wife Carol: Cathy Baker, Cindy Lape, David Fairbanks, and Carin Arena. Gene is predeceased by their son, Damian Fairbanks and his parents Eugene and Blodwyn. Gene has four grandchildren: Nicole, Kelly, Maryssa, and Justin and one great-granddaughter, Skylar Grace. Gene is survived by his brother Richard (Janice) Fairbanks, and his sister, Sarah (William) Becraft. Gene was multi-talented and his passion for the arts colored every aspect of his life. In addition to teaching art, he painted, sculpted, acted, illustrated, and authored poetry, plays, and books. He has had a long career of exhibiting his art in gallery and art shows throughout the Northeast. Gene would sum his life in one simple word: Artist. A memorial service will be held in the future at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the United Church of Granville.
