Obituary of Philip Asa Hayes

Philip Asa Hayes of Wells, Vermont died on January 25, 2025 surrounded by his loving family at his daughter's home in Hebron NY. Phil was born on March 30, 1944, in Granville, NY, the son of the late Asa J and Ola Marie (Philips) Hayes. Phil was a true Vermonter that always was there to help his family, neighbors and friends. He was an avid golfer, hunter, trapper and fisherman. He loved to be outdoors enjoying nature and collecting his ginseng. He enjoyed gardening, feeding the squirrels and birds and watching various wild animals that came into his yard. He was a master craftsman and contractor, building three of his own homes. He built a lucrative sawmill business which he owned and operated for over 25 years. In addition, he was an adept bulldozer operator and plowed snow for 60 plus years. Phil was predeceased by his parents, all of his siblings, his wife Lynne and a great granddaughter. Left to cherish his memory is his companion Carol Combs, his children: Dawn Meador (Lee), Asa Hayes (Laurie), Becky Lanfear (Calvin), Holly Hayes Martelle, Stephanie Case; and his step children: Greg Harrington (Bonnie), Valarie Woodruff (Frank), Lisa Martelle, Julie Greene, and Jo-Lynne Bartholomew (Bart); and several grandchildren and great grandchildren,nieces and nephews. Left to miss him also, is his faithful canine companion Trixie. The family wishes to thank High Peaks Hospice of Hudson Falls, NY for making it possible for Phil to spend his final days at his daughter's home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to High Peaks Hospice, 1247 Lower Dix Ave, Hudson Falls, NY 12839 or to Haynes House of Hope, 7187 NY 149 Granville, NY 12832, so that others may experience their wonderful care. Friends may call on Friday, January 31, 2025, at the Robert M King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, NY from 4-7 PM. Burial will be at a later date.
