Margaret Elizabeth "Betty" Scarlotta, 91, of Granville, New York, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of March 13, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on January 17, 1934, in Sharon, Connecticut, Betty was the youngest of six children. From an early age, she was known for her kindness, strong faith, and deep devotion to family.
Betty met the love of her life, Vincent "Jimmy" Scarlotta, while he was on leave from the Navy in Amenia, New York. The two were married on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1954, at Immaculate Conception Church in Amenia.
Betty and Jimmy made Granville their home, where they built a life together and successfully ran multiple businesses, including Scarlotta's Car Hop. A devoted member of Saint Mary's Church, Betty was deeply involved in her faith community, teaching catechism, serving as a church money counter, and being an active member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
Above all, Betty was a loving and dedicated mother. She raised her five children with warmth, strength, and unwavering support, leaving them with a lifetime of cherished memories. She is survived by her children: Antonette (Tim) Weaver, Louie Scarlotta, Lisa Chapman, Vincent "Nim" Scarlotta Jr., and Anthony (Dee) Scarlotta.
Betty was also a beloved grandmother to Joey Chapman, Laura Barlow, Brittany Martell, Adam Scarlotta, Luca Scarlotta, Anthony Scarlotta Jr., Courtney Weaver, Tyler Scarlotta, Alyssa Scarlotta, and Caitlan Weaver, as well as many great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy.
Her love extended beyond her family to her treasured dogs, Louie and Jimmy, who were always by her side.
A funeral mass will be held at Saint Mary's Church in Granville on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 11:30 AM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Betty's life. Following Mass there will be a gathering at the Telescope Showroom on Church Street to share food and memories.
