Obituary of Stanley Zavistaski

Pawlet, VT - Stanley John Zavistaski passed away at his home in Pawlet, Vermont, on April 6, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on February 5, 1936, Stanley graduated from West Rutland High School and went on to serve in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957. After military service, he pursued higher education at Castleton State College, attending from 1958 to 1962. Stanley began his career in education, teaching in the North Bennington School System from 1962 to 1967. He then transitioned into public service with the State of Vermont in Community Corrections, working from 1967 until his retirement in 1996. His dedication to civic life continued after retirement as he served the Town of Pawlet as both a Lister and Selectman. He was predeceased by his father, Ludrich Zovistoski; his mother, Stephania (Brudz); and his beloved wife, Shirley (Waite) Zavistaski. Stanley is survived by his sister, Irene Childs; sons David Zavistaski and Andrew Zavistaski; and their spouses, Stacie and Darcel. He leaves behind grandchildren Jillian Zavistaski, Colton Zavistaski and his wife Leah, and Brooke Zavistaski; step-grandchildren Jordan Arbour and his wife Melissa and Jared Arbour; and great-grandchildren Silas Zavistaski, Hunter Arbour, and McKenna Arbour. Stanley is also survived by brothers-in-law Steve Waite, Carl Waite (Sarah), and John Waite (Pat). In his personal time, Stanley enjoyed creating, gardening, reading, and sharing quiet time with his dog Zoey. A graveside service to honor Stanley's life will be held on May 10, 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Northeast Cemetery in Pawlet, Vermont on Route 133, with a reception at his home after the service.
