Middle Granville, NY - Leonard R. Winchell passed away on May 15, 2025 following a brief illness.

Leonard was born on October 14, 1939 in Granville, NY the son of the late Leonard M.and Ella Mae (Vanguilder) Winchell.

Leonard met and married the love of this life Dora (Burch) Winchell and spent the next 63 years madly in love.

He worked most of his life as a foreman at Ritchie Brothers Slate in Middle Granville. A job he loved.

A good game of pitch was always on on Leonard's agenda. And perhaps a little gambling. Family and friends will remember him as a jokester, loving to kid and do pranks. And a little side note...He was quite the tap dancer in his younger years.

His family meant the world to him and he and Dora created an amazing one. Leonard was predeceased by his parents and a son Jeff. He is survived by his beloved wife Dora, and his 5 children, Lisa Winchell (Russell), Lenn (Shannon) Arleen Sawyer (Walt), Brenda Rice (George) and Tammy Davis (Bobby). They also raised two extra whom they treated as their own, Jenn Powers (Jared) and Mary. He was blessed with 14 grandchildren: Jenn Powers, Russell Irwin, Amanda Bates, Jeff Winchell, Ashey Davis, Heather Fitelson, Lenny Rice, Lenn Winchell Jr., Ryan Winchell, Chrissy Forrest, Judy Raymond, Dillon Bartholemew, Makayla Winchell and Megan Welch as well as 16 great grandchildren and 3 great grands.

A funeral will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 2 PM at the Robert M King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, NY with Pastor Dan Poucher. Burial will follow at Morningside Cemetery in Hartford. Friends may call at the funeral home from Noon until the time of the service.
