Granville, NY - John H. Stewart, age 82, passed away on July 13, 2025.

John was born on March 20, 1943 in Granville, New York, the son of the late James and Luetta (Durkee) Stewart.

He was a XXXX graduate of Granville Central School. He married the love of his life, Adrienne Ripley and together they shared 63 years of wedded bliss.

John worked for Decora in Fort Edward for 38 years, leaving only when the factory was sold. Following that change of plans he worked for Manchester Wood in Granville, NY for a few years. He also did a brief stint working at Robert M King Funeral Home, helping out with funerals.

John was an outstanding athelete. He played baseball in high school, then for the Glens Falls Independents and the San Francisco Giants. John also had a long coaching career. He coached Granville Legion baseball, Granville Little League baseball, Granville Middle League baseball, Hudson Falls Legion Baseball and Granville High School baseball. He spent 30 years in Major league ball as a scout for the Cincinnati Reds and the Atlanta Braves. John also participated as an umpire in many leagues.

Another sport he excelled at was bowling. He bowled in many leagues throughout the years, but the shared his knowledge for 20 years as a certified Bowling instructor. John was also entered in to the Glens Falls Bowling Hall of Fame.

John enjoyed attending local stock car racing events with his family and friends. He also enjoyed many afternoons attending horse races or OTB and a trip or two to casinos was always a good time. Baseball or bowling with his buddies was a certain enjoyment for John.

While John throughly enjoyed raising his children he also embraced the title of Papa. He especially loved being

with them at a ball field or bowling alley teaching them skills.

John was predeceased by his parents, and siblings Clifford, Anna, Mary, Stanley and Wilma. Survivors are his wife Adrienne and his children John Stewart (Sandy) and Suzanne Shea (Mark). He was blessed with seven grandchildren Hunter, Hannah and Holton Bassett, John Stewart III, Amber, Brady and Brett Stewart and one great grandchild, Onyx. In addition he is survived by several nieces and nephews.

John's service was private.
