Francis A. Powers, 78, passed away on October 16th, 2025 at Crescent Manor Nursing Home in Bennington, VT.

Fran was born on March 13, 1947 in Rutland, VT, son of the late Henry A. and Mildred (Raiche) Powers. He grew up in Danby, VT, attended local schools and graduated from Wallingford High School in 1965.

On October 22, 1966, he married Jean Corey. They were able to celebrate almost 59 years together.

On October 22, 1965, Fran joined the 45th Engineer Division of the Vermont National Guard. He was discharged in 1990 after 25 years of service. He was employed by General Electric in Rutland for 40 years, retiring in 2006.

One of Fran's greatest pastimes was being a 46 year member of the Pawlet Volunteer Fire Dept.

As his boys were growing up, he was involved in the Boy Scouts of America, Mettawee Valley Dairy 4-H and the Oxbow Mountain 4-H Club. He was named Mettawee Valley Grange Citizen of the Year in 1990.

Fran was predeceased by his parents, his in-laws, Charles & Gladys Corey, brother-in-law Francis (Gus) Gould Jr. and sister-in-law Mary Powers.

Survivors are his wife, sons Christopher (Michelle) of Granville, NY and Richard (Allison) of Southington, CT, 5 grandchildren, Bailey, Kayla, Emily, Nick and Caden Powers, brother Henry (Pete) Powers, sisters-in-law Patricia Gould, Gail Jarvis, and several nieces, nephews & cousins.

Family & friends may call at Robert M King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, NY on Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 5-7 pm. The funeral service will be Sunday, October 26, 2025 at Noon at the funeral home. Military honors will be accorded following the service at the funeral home. A reception will be held at the Pawlet Firehouse. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pawlet Volunteer Fire Dept. 155 VT RT 133, Pawlet, VT 05761 to honor Fran's years of service.
