On December 28, 2025, God received another angel. Kathleen Hayward passed away after a short battle with cancer, at her home with her family by her side.
She was born on July 24, 1952, in Granville, NY, the daughter of Peter and Dorothy (Athens) Jurnak .
She was predeceased by her father and three siblings: Peter, Larry and Ann.
Kathleen is survived by the love of her life, to whom she was married for 39 great years, Kenneth A. Hayward. She was the loving mother of four children; Amy Campney (Floyd) of Manchester, VT, Brad Campney (Nancy) of Granville, son Kenny (Cari) and son Michael (Shannon) of Granville. She is survived by her mother Dorothy who currently resides at the Slate Valley Center in North Granville at 97 years young. Kathy was one of eight children (3 brothers and 4 sisters) surviving are Andy, Chris, Andrea, and Sandy. She was blessed with grandchildren and great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Kathy was a generous giver and mentor to many. Her greatest mission was helping veterans. Stop 22 a Day, a veteran suicide project, was one of the extremely near and dear causes she was most passionate about, in honor of her father who served in WW2. She was extremely active in the VFW Auxiliary and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Hudson Falls and Granville for over 50 years, in addition, being a life member of the VFW Auxiliary. She also was an active member of Post 6196 in Queensbury and currently serving as the district 3 President of VFW Auxiliary for the second time. Kathy was a past president of the Mohawk County Council, as well as many other positions in the auxiliary. She was a member of the Veterans Plus group at the VFW Post 6196 and a mentor for the peer to peer veterans group.
When not pursuing her volunteer endeavors she loved to spend time with her grandchildren, whom she dearly loved. Her other interests were gardening and raising house plants.
One of Kathy's favorite pastimes was riding on the back of their Harley Davidson with her husband Ken. It mattered not whether it was a group ride or just she and Ken. They enjoyed charity rides to help people in need, on the bike as well. She was able to combine her love for biking and volunteering by becoming a very active and loved member of the American Legion Riders Post 574 in Hudson Falls.Over the years she made many friendships from their bike rides.
Kathy will be sorely missed by many whose path she crossed in one of her numerous capacities. Her Facebook account had over a thousand friends in addition to others.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 10 AM-1PM at the Robert M King Funeral Home, 23 Church Street, Granville, NY with a funeral service to follow at 1PM.
