Elsie (Jones) Jones


Elsie passed away on December 29, 2025 following a brief illness.


She was born on July 17,1930 in South Poultney,Vermont the daughter of the late David and Elizabeth (Parry) Jones.


In 1941 the family moved to Granville, New York where she attended Granville High school and graduated with the Class of 1948.

After graduation she went to work for the Glens Falls Insurance Company then Race Oil Company. In 1960 she went to work at the Granville Branch of the First National Bank of Glens Falls. Her work history came to a close with her retirement from the New York State Department of Corrections at the Comstock, NY training office.


In 1949 she married John R. Williams. They were married for 27 years.


Elsie was a life member of the Peniel Presbyterian Church where she served as Treasurer, Financial Secretary, and Sunday School teacher for 20 years and a member of the Bethany Class. She was also a member of the Poultney Area St. David's Society and the Slate Valley Museum. She was very proud of her Welsh heritage.

On March 2, 1978 she married Robert O. Jones.They were married for 35 wonderful years until his passing on March 2, 2013.


Elsie enjoyed knitting, crewel embroidery and watching sports events on television. She was a loyal Boston Red Sox and New York Giants fan.


Elsie was predeceased by her parents, her husband,her sister Nancy J. Owens, her brother Benjamin D. Jones and his wife Joyce T. Jones. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Nancy C. Leo, Anne E. Jones(Kimball Clark), Jeffrey T. Jones (Sue), David O. Jones (Mary), Mark D. Owens (Lynn), Christopher J. Owens, five great nieces and four great nephews. Elsie is also survived by her stepchildren Michael J. Jones Sr., Ann H. Kelley (Richard), Michael J. Jones Jr.(Carryn), Kelsie J. Jones and Nicholas R. Christie, her cousins Barbara Breen Orton (Clark), Catherine B. Wiener(Richard), Christine B. Kertzman (David), the Williams family and her good friend Rosalia Terrio.


A funeral service will be held on May 23, 2026 at 11AM at the Peniel Presbyterian Church, 4 Quaker Street, Granville, NY with the Rev. Jerry McKinney officiating. Burial will follow at the Mettowee Valley Cemetery , North Street, Granville, NY
