Ivan R. Watrous, 89, of Hebron, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Ivan was born on November 9, 1936, in Rupert, Vermont, the son of Charles "Roy" and Ruth (Denison) Watrous. He was educated in the Rupert schools and was a graduate of Salem Washington Academy.
On March 17, 1957, Ivan married the love of his life, Jane Craig. They made a home together for more than 65 years until her passing in October 2024.
Ivan worked in construction for a few years, but his true passion was automobiles. He owned and operated Rite Way Auto Repair in Hebron for many years until 1986. Following the closing of his business, Ivan served the Town of Hebron as Highway Superintendent for over 15 years. In retirement, he continued to enjoy working with his hands, especially repairing lawnmowers—most notably his beloved "old Cubs" (Cub Cadets)
Ivan was a Life Member and Past Chief of the West Pawlet (VT) Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and served as past President of the Washington County Association of Street & Highway Officials.
In addition to his wife Jane, Ivan was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Charlie; and his sisters, Edna (Winot) and Carol (Tifft).
He is survived by his sons, Craig Watrous Sr. and his wife, Kelly (Morneault) Watrous, of Hebron, along with their sons—his grandsons—Craig Watrous Jr. and Scott Watrous; and Kevin Watrous of Argyle, NY, and his fiancée, Kerrie Strong, and daughters, Maggie Austin and Kasey Austin. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Walcott; his brothers, Rodney Watrous and Richard Watrous; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 21, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service on Thursday, January 22, at 1:00 p.m., both at the Robert King Funeral Home in Granville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ivan's memory to the West Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department, West Pawlet, VT, or the Granville Rescue Squad, Granville, NY.
