GRANVILLE, NY --- Joan Ellen (Ely) McClenning age 85, loving wife of Robert L. McClenning, passed away on January 23, 2026 at Albany Medical Center surrounded by her loved ones.

Joan was born in West Hebron, NY on January 31, 1940 just after her twin sister Joyce. Born to the late Paul Frank Ely and Martha Arabella Dennison Ely, Joan was one of eleven children. She was a graduate of Washington Academy in Salem, NY.

Joan and Robert (Bob) built their home in North Granville in 1967 and spent their lives together and were blessed with two children. She enjoyed many nights of country music and square dancing at Nelson's Dance Hall in Hebron with her family. Joan was an avid bird watcher from her kitchen window and her front yard where she had her bird feeders and bird bath. She loved her family very much and especially enjoyed celebrating birthdays, holidays and get-togethers whenever possible. Joan was also a 24 year survivor of breast cancer.

Joan was employed by CA Baltz in Salem, NY in her early years before having her children. She was then able to stay at home for several years raising her children along with caring for her ill niece and babysitting neighborhood children before returning to the workforce. Joan worked at J&J Lingerie in the village of Granville for a few years before moving on to working for Washington County Public Health as a home health aide until she retired. She touched the lives of many local residents during her time as a home health aide in Washington County. She was a dedicated and devoted life long care giver.

Joan is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert McClenning, her son Daniel McClenning (Shannon) and her daughter Nancy Hamlin (Mark). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Gregory McClenning (Tara-Lynn), Emily McClenning, Matthew Hamlin and Joshua Hamlin (Bay-Leigh) and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Frances Pangman, Eleanor Ely, Joyce Rudd, Doris Smith, Mary Morehouse and her brothers, Walter Ely, Wallace Ely, John Jay Ely, Malcolm Ely and Paul Ely.

Family and friends may call Thursday, January 29, 2026 from 1pm to 3pm at Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 3pm at the funeral home. Spring burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Argyle.
