Raymond Morris Winchell Obituary

Raymond (Ray) Winchell, 80, of Hampton NY, a devoted family man, proud Marine, and lifelong storyteller, passed away February 24th, 2026, surrounded by the love of those he cherished most.

He served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1963 to 1968, including service during the Vietnam War. His years in the Marines were a source of deep pride and helped shape the resilient, determined man his family knew and loved.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Nancy, who stood faithfully by his side through life's many adventures. He also leaves behind his sisters, Eleanor and Charlotte.

His legacy continues through his children: Tammy (John), Tracy (Darryl), Renee (Craig), Raymond, Robert (Cassondra), Lisa (Lowell), and Andrew (Danielle). He was a proud grandfather to 19 grandchildren and a cherished great-grandfather to 23 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and happiness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel VanGuilder and Earl Winchell; his brothers Russell, Earl, and Elmond; and his sisters Harriet and Ethel.

He loved his family fiercely — they were his greatest accomplishment and his proudest legacy. Whether gathered around at family cookouts, sharing meals, laughter, and stories, or simply spending time together, he treasured every moment.

He had a true passion for working on cars and trucks and could often be found under the hood of a project, buried in a mud hole or attending drag races, enjoying the roar of engines and the thrill they brought. He lived with a "buy first, think later" mentality that became part of his charm. An avid gun collector and passionate storyteller, he never missed an opportunity to share a tale, often holding a room captive with his humor and larger-than-life personality.

He will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his pride in serving his country, and the countless memories he created. His stories will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his legacy will continue through the generations he loved so deeply. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
