Raymond L. Viger

Granville, NY - Raymond Leo Viger, age 91, of Granville past away in his wife's arms at his home on March 13, 2026 surrounded by loved ones.

Ray was born on October 21, 1934 in Saratoga Springs, NY the son of the late Leo and Helen (Benson) Viger.

Ray served the Town of Fair Haven from 1979 to Dec. 31, 2004. He rose from the rank of Patrolman and retired after serving as the Chief of Police. During his time Ray strived to modernize the department, but still maintained a small town approach to serving his community. Officers past and present have been influenced by Ray's mentorship, approach and outlook. He earned respect and his legacy will continue on, and his service forever respected. In addition he served in several other communities over the years.

He was known and loved by many.

Ray was a proud Navy Veteran.

Ray was a member of the Blue Knights and Cairo Temple Shriners.

Ray enjoyed painting, hunting,fishing,motorcycle rides and gardening. And there was always tinkering to be done in the garage,

He is predeceased by his parents, and by his two brothers Donald and his wife Hilda and Alfred and Betty Viger. Ray is survived by his wife Tabatha (Thomas) Viger, his children Jen Piper (Jon), Timothy Hebert, Thomas Hebert and his daughter Tina (Viger) Pedone (Curtis). He was blessed with 4 grandchildren Alison and Kennedy Piper, Ryan and Christina Pedone and 1 great grandchild. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, step sisters and many extended family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion in Fair Haven, Vermont on April 4, 2026 from 4-6 PM. The family would love to have anyone who wants to come and share stories of Ray's colorful life. People would often stop in to ask Ray for advice or assistance in fixing just about anything.
