Dennis James Baker, 87, of Hartford died Sunday, May 24, 2026 at Glens Falls Hospital.

He was born July 10, 1938 the son of William H. and Beatrice (Begor) Baker.

Dennis graduated in 1956 from Hartford Central School. He worked in many area slate quarries before deciding to work for himself. Dennis retired from construction in 2010. He spent his retirement reading westerns, having long conversations with friends and sitting on his front porch.

Dennis was predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Marjorie E. Baker in 2023; as well as his parents, older

brother Henry and his niece Kathy.

He is survived by his stepdaughters; JoEllen Wever of South Glens Falls and Karen Armstrong (Stephen) of Lake George, his brother-in-law Ronnie Mercure (Diane) of Hartford, his three nephews: William Baker (Helene) of Victory Mills, Richard Baker of Hudson Falls and Clarence Baker (Jodie) of Hartford.

He will miss sharing stories with his friends; Thomas Baker, Duane Burch, Brian Boucher, Walter Brown, Michael Strait and Wally Sweezey. A special thank you to Ann Bardin for her help the last few years.

Services will be held at Mettowee Valley Cemetery in Granville on June 3, 2026 and 3 PM. In lieu of flowers - memorial donations may be made to Haynes House of Hope.
