Michael J. Labas, Jr. Granville, NY - Michael John Labas, Jr. passed into glory suddenly on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. He was born on May 30, 1950 in Granville, N.Y. the son of the late Michael and Janice (Flower) Labas. He lived there for most of his life. He attended Granville Central School, where he was a member of the football team, the band, the chorus, and the drama club. He attended Hudson Valley Community College and the Colorado School of Mines, where he became a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He maintained friendships with some of his fraternity brothers all his life. "Mike" began his career as a sales representative for IDS financial services. Then, in addition to working in the family quarry, Mike was employed by Agway, where he became a manager in Whitehall, Red Hook, and Greenwich. Mike loved music. He served as cantor for more than a quarter century at Saints Peter and Paul's Byzantine Catholic Church, following in his father's footsteps. He was also a long-time member of the Granville Town Band. He loved people, and enjoyed playing cards and golf with his friends and family, and socializing in his back yard and garage. History and biographies fascinated him. His knowledge of plants, his sense of humor, his quickness with a favor, and his endless stories made him a pleasure to know. Mike is survived by Linda (Corbett) Labas, his wife of 46 years, his son Michael Labas, his daughter Nicola Labas and her son Vincent Vega, his son John and his wife Holly and their sons Jonathan, Gabriel, and Elias, his grandson Lucas Hurley, his daughter Mary Catherine Labas, her partner Doug Williams, and their daughter Catherine Rose Williams. His siblings and their spouses include Cynthia and Stephen Baldino, Mary and Tom Cosey, Bernadette and Pat Maloney, John and Stephen Labas, and Paul Labas and his partner Deborah Kendall. He will also be missed by several nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Peaches. Visitation will be at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church at 1:00PM on Monday, August 27. Funeral Mass will follow at 2:00 PM. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Robert M King Funeral Home, Granville, NY.
