Margaret M. Stokowski Granville, NY - On August 24, 2018 Margaret-Mary Stokowski, loving wife and mother of three children, passed away at the age of 74. Margaret was born on January 1, 1944 in Fort Edward, NY the daughter of James and Amelia "Mona" (Torchetti) Crandall. She graduated from Green Mountain College followed by graduation from Castleton State College where she earned her teaching degree. She taught elementary education in the Granville and Hartford School systems. Margaret married John T. Stokowski on August 23, 1969. They raised two daughters, Mary Margaret and Annie, and one son, John. Margaret left the education field in 1972 to build the family business, John Stokowski and Sons, Inc. Margaret was always busy--with her children, tending her flowers and lawns, baking, managing the family business, eating out with friends, and traveling with her husband. Margaret grew up in her family's greenhouse business amongst her extended family and her father's horses. When her children were young, she could be found skiing the slopes of the Northeast, biking, and transporting her children to various sporting events and other activities. She was active in her church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and Parish Council member. Margaret was also active in her community and served as a board member on ASA Land Trust. In recent years, Margaret's greatest joy was her grandchildren. Margaret was predeceased by her father, James, and her mother, Mona. She is survived by her husband, John, and her three children and their spouses, Mary-Margaret and Paul Herstedt, John Stokowski and Olga Vargas, and Annie and Chris Wagner. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Anthony (Tony) Stokowski, her sister Marsha Dunster, and her six grandchildren, Ethan and Lucas Herstedt, Lily and Gabe Stokowski, and Max and Jillian Wagner. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 29 at Noon at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 23 Bulkley Ave., Granville, NY with the Rev Thomas Zelker presiding. Burial will be at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery. A gathering will follow at the Iron Lantern in Castleton, VT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be made to the American Cancer Society,1 Penny Lane, Latham, NY 12110. Online condolences may be made at www.robertmkingfuneralhome.com.
