William Wright Obituary

William P. Wright GRANVILLE - On Saturday, February 11, 2017, with his loving family by his side, William P. Wright was called to eternal rest after a brief illness. Bill was born April 30, 1923 in Rupert, Vermont to William L. and Edna (Ely) Wright. After graduating from Granville High School, he enlisted in the service and served during World War II in Italy with the 351st Regiment, 88th Infantry Division (Blue Devils). Upon his return home, Bill was employed as a machinist at the General Electric Company in Fort Edward, New York for 35 years. In 1955, he met the love of his life, Jean Evans and wed her in 1957. For those who knew them, they were inseparable. Bill spent a lifetime doing community service such as volunteering at church with his Masonic Lodge. As a proud dad he was always there to help his children, Cathy and David, and in recent years his three granddaughters. Bill had, what appeared to his family, the patience and skill of a superhero when it came to repairing everything from bicycle chains to broken windows to scraped knees. During their 57 years of marriage, Bill and Jean enjoyed traveling and were able to see most of the 50 states along with many European countries. A 60 year member, he was Past Master of the Granville Lodge #55 and was the recipient of the Dedicated Service Award. Bill worshipped at the Peniel Presbyterian Church for sixty years. Bill is survived by his daughter, Cathy Wright-Wilson and her husband Warren of Latham, New York and his son, David Wright and his wife Deborah of Greenwich, New York. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Brynne, Brooke, and Teagan Wright of Greenwich, New York; two brothers Isaac Wright of Hudson Falls, New York and Grant Wright of Ballston Spa, New York; two sisters Elsie Mattison of Hudson Falls, New York and Audrey Sears of Daytona, Nevada; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins. Bill was predeceased by his wife, Jean E. Wright; parents, William L. and Edna (Ely) Wright; his sister Cora Hoag and her husband Joseph Hoag of South Glens Falls, New York; his sister Edna Wood and her husband Donald Wood of Isanti, Minnesota; a brother-in-law Raymond Evans and his wife Betty Evans of Houston, Texas; a sister-in-law Jeanne Wright of Hudson Falls, New York; a sister-in-law Inez (Grant) Wright of Hudson Falls, New York; a brother-in-law Carlton (Audrey) Sears of Dayton, Nevada; and brother–in-law Gerald (Elsie) Mattison of Hudson Falls, New York. Friends and relatives may call on the family from 11 a.m. to noon, Friday, February 17, 2017, at the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church Street, Granville, NY. A funeral will follow at noon with the Rev. Jerry McKinney of the Peniel Presbyterian Church officiating, as well as, a Masonic Service. Burial will be at the Mettowee Valley Cemetery in Granville in the spring. The family would like to express their thanks to Community Hospice at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, NY for their compassionate care. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice Inn, c/o Community Hospice Foundation, 310 South Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.
