Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edward S. Parsons III Granville, NY – Edward S. Parsons III, age 79, went to join his beloved wife, Judy on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. Judy passed away on August 4, 2016 and Ed wanted nothing more than to be with her. They are together at last. Ed was born on August 28, 1939 in Poughkeepsie, New York the son of Edward and Evelyn (Heidler) Parsons, Jr. Immediately after graduating from Wappingers Falls Central School District in 1958 Ed joined the Army. He was a proud Army veteran, serving from 1958 to 1962. He married Judith Locke, the love of his life on September 26, 1959. Upon his honorable discharge from the military he became a Dutchess County Sheriff's deputy. In a short time, he went to the New York State Police Academy and became a Trooper in October of 1963. He was a compassionate and caring officer who took his job seriously. He served the NYS police until his retirement in 1983. One detail which he was particularly proud of while serving was working the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid in 1980. Upon his retirement he and Judy started a local business, Rainbow Paint in Granville, which they ran for many years. They decided to retire "again", but this time for real. They went camping and traveling in their motorhome, enjoying many trips with family and friends. Ed and Judy loved entertaining and frequently had gatherings at their home with all the neighbors on the street. The children referred to it as "their Prospect Street family". He was always willing to host a party or just sit and have a drink and good visit with friends. Not one to be idle he became passionate about woodworking and created many wonderful gifts for his children and grandchildren which they will treasure. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ed was a friendly presence throughout the village in the last few years, out on his daily constitutionals. His walks were sometimes alone and sometimes accompanied by Nancy. He was always active and involved in his community. He was a member of the American Legion, the Lion's Club, and Henry Hose Fire Department. He served as a Washington County Coroner for over 20 years. He was predeceased by his parents and wife Judy. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Cathy Perry (Dan) of Queensbury and Heather Brownell (Kyle) of Granville. He was blessed with six grandchildren: Brooke Melrose (Adrien), Lauren Blair (Michael), Daniel Perry Jr., Mallory Perry, Gregory Desiato and Abby Desiato and two great grandchildren Cooper and Colton Melrose. He was also gifted with a dear friend and caregiver that became like a daughter to him, Nancy Lippy. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials may be made in his memory to the Granville Rescue Squad, POB 153, Granville, NY 12832 or the Granville Engine and Hose Co. No. 1, POB 208, Granville, NY 12832. A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 10AM at the Mettowee Valley Cemetery in Granville, NY Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Robert M King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, NY.
