Obituary of Catherine Muriel Williams

Catherine M. Williams Granville, NY – Catherine M. Williams passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones at the Slate Valley Center in North Granville on March 21, 2019. Some of her last coherent speech was, "Go get the car, Walt. Jeanie is fine... go get the car." Cathy was born on October 10, 1933 in Warrensburg, New York the daughter of Charles and Beulah (Dunkley) Burch. A week before passing, Catherine began to reminisce and said her husband, Walter Williams, was "the love of her life...she would never find another man like Walt." Catherine, or more familiarly "Cathy", moved a lot in her young adult life with Walt. But she found her favorite place when Walt took a job at one of the marinas in Lake George. She grew fond of the boats and being by the water. In her later years, after the passing of her beloved husband Walter, she moved to and remained in Granville for nearly 30 years to be closer to family. Anyone who knew Cathy knew she was a stubborn woman with a big heart. She would always be sure to call her daughter, Catherine ("Jeanie"), to keep up to date on things; and insert her opinion into matters. She loved being on her porch in her senior years, usually holding conversations with her best friends / neighbors Fred and Helen or enjoying time with family. When Cathy did leave the comfort of her porch, it was to do her favorite things like getting her hair done or shopping, usually while listening to her favorite artist, George Straight ("Troubadour" was her favorite). The one main thing everyone loved and still mentions is how Cathy always had a smile on her face. She always said "I'll be fine, don't worry" and smiled, no matter how tough things were getting. She always insisted she was fine to ease everyone else. Catherine is survived by her daughter Catherine "Jeanie" Williams-Gilbo, (Gerald, Sr.) and their children Shannon, Virginia, Candy, Terry, and Gerald Jr.; as well as her great grandchildren, Mason and Jillian. Catherine's family would like to thank the staff of Slate Valley Nursing Home, who provided phenomenal care to Catherine during the last weeks of her life. Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 from 5-7 PM at the Robert M King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, NY. A graveside funeral and burial will be held in the spring.
