Marie Monroe Rutland, VT – Marie Monroe, age 83, passed away on October 19, 2019 at Mountain View Center in Rutland, Vermont. Marie was born on January 15, 1936 in Rutland, Vermont the daughter of John and Audrey (Varney) Travers. Marie's passion for singing and playing guitar was a portion of everything else in her life. She became an entertainer. She played with numerous bands throughout the years. Marie had the honor of playing the Peter Williams show in Nashville and performed at the Grand Old Opry. She also served as President of the NEACWE (North East Association of Country Western Entertainers). Marie was a very spiritual person. She had a strong belief in her Lord. She became an ordained minister and used her music in that ministry. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly. She got to see her great great granddaughter before she passed away. Marie was also a great cook. She always treasured the memory of having cooked a meal for President Roosevelt when he was visiting in Vermont. She was predeceased by her parents, and her husband of 11 years, LeRoy Monroe Sr. whom she met while playing a band with him. Marie was also predeceased by a son Theron Strong, Jr in 1992 and her siblings Lee Travers, Bernie Bishop Brenda Bruso and Phyllis Bishop. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Sharon Strong of White River Junction, Melody Strong of Middlebury, Cris Johnson of Leicester, and Michael Strong Sr. Jen) of Hubbardton. She leaves behind her siblings Bunny Toxqui of North Carolina, Valayda Peery of Benson, Gloria Bishop of North Carolina. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter, in addition to many nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, October 28, 2019 at 1 PM at Bethany Cemetery in Truthville (North Granville), New York.
