Betty Jones Sheldon
Wells, VT – Betty Jones Sheldon, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, August 31, 2017.
Betty was born on January 5, 1931 in Wells, Vermont the daughter of the late Samuel A. and Pauline (Fitzpatrick) Jones in the family home.
Betty was a stay at home mom and a farm wife. Two very noble and demanding careers. She loved raising her family, which meant the world to her and as evidenced by Betty's commitment this was her primary purpose in life. She helped on the family farm, and did the all administrative work in addition to numerous daily family chores. This was ever changing as her children were always adding to the animal life of the farm. She also worked at various times at the Sheldon's Market in Pawlet and the Sheldon Orchard.
In later years, she enjoyed traveling with her twin sister Sally and her brother in law, Gene, to Hawaii, England and Ireland, to name a few.
Until she was too ill to do so, Betty loved serving holiday dinners to her family and celebrating their individual birthdays. She was an excellent cook and her family and friends relished the thought of these annual get togethers.
After living in Pawlet for 50 years, Betty had an opportunity to move back to Wells where she was able to build a home on the site of her childhood home which had burned down. This move undoubtedly brought back many cherished memories of her youth, especially having shared it with her twin sister Sally. Reminiscing and sitting on her patio marveling at the splendor of Lake St Catherine's dam.
The number of words summing up her life may appear short, but she packed a lot of love and happiness into them, creating memories her family will cherish for a life time.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, her husband Floyd R. Sheldon, Jr., a son James Sheldon, a brother Samuel Jones, Jr, three sisters Beverly Oakman, Wilhelmina Jones, Germaine Pauquette and a brother in law Eugene Roussil. Survivors are her children; Floyd R. Sheldon III (Esther) Pawlet, Lynn Sheldon of Wells, and Dale Bardin (David) of Pawlet. She was blessed with grandchildren: James Sheldon, Jr. (Samantha), Jessica Sheldon (Scott), Floyd R. Sheldon, IV (Dianna), Nicole Bardin (Troy) and Tyler Bardin, along with eight great grandchildren. Her siblings include her twin sister Sally Ann Roussil and Joan Pauquette, both of Wells. She also leaves behind her two canine companions Izzy and Pippi.
