Obituary of Robert Lee Burgardt

Robert Lee Burgardt Granville, NY – Robert Lee Burgardt, age 69 went to the lands of the Lord on June 18, 2022 in Springfield, IL after a short illness. He was heading to Kansas to meet up with his siblings whom he hadn't seen in 30 or more years. He was born in Hays, Kansas on July 4, 1952 the son of Eugene and Stella M. (Speier) Burgardt. Robert was a machinist in Wichita KS for several companies and later moved to New York and worked at Finch Pruyn for several years and also at several machine shops in Rutland, VT. He was a handy man to many people in Granville who will miss him, his best friend Frank Pekar, sister Betty, Helen Macura and member of the South Granville Congregational Church where he occasionally attended services. He enjoyed shooting bow and arrow for fun, fishing, gardening, collecting coins and stamps and panning for gold. Robert quit school and joined the Army during the Vietnam War. On May 24. 2013 He was awarded a Vietnam War Veteran Honorary High School Diploma form Granville High School. After a speech he received a standing ovation bring tears to many. He will be missed by many, especially his best friend Frank Pekar, special friends Ken and Kathy Hayward who looked after him like a brother, Helen Macura who always said, "I enjoy helping him in any way I can as it brings back memories of my brothers." All of the Frost family considered him part of their family and his step kids always said he was the best. Robert was predeceased by his parents, a brother Mike Burgardt, a sister Lesia M. Batemon, both his maternal and paternal grandparents and his beloved wife Jean Evelyn Fredette who passed in2015. to cherish his memories are his two daughters Nicole Deal of Russellville, AK and Robin Wood of Winfield, KS. He was blessed with five granddaughters. He is also survived by two brothers: Clifford Burkardt of OK and Dennis Erbert of KS and three sisters: Donna Smith of KS, Betty Frost of Granville, Anna Buhl of KS He will also be missed by his niece Ashley Parker with whom he was particularly close. Robert will be buried at the Gerald B H Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 12:30 PM with full military honors.
