Obituary of Laurie Ann Cenate

Please share a memory of Laurie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Laurie A. Cenate Laurie Ann (Martelle) Cenate, 57, of Granville, NY, passed from this life to the next on November 9, 2023, after a diagnosis of a rare neuroendocrine carcinoma cancer. Laurie was born on September 4, 1966, in Rutland, VT. The daughter of Phillip "Red" and Patricia "Pat" Martelle, Laurie found her work ethic as a very young girl - she was no taller than the table when she started taking orders at the Salamugandies snack bar. She was a beloved Mama, Mema, and friend to all who knew her and a savvy businesswoman who opened her first second-hand store at the age of 18 and had a lifelong career in estate sales and antiquing. She built a name for herself as the proprietor of Bargain Busters and Treasures Galore, and later transitioned into auctions, running Wheelin' and Dealin' Auction House, where her buoyant personality brought many years of success. She could sell ice to an eskimo. Laurie Ann will be best remembered for her generous spirit, and dedication to her family and community. When she had free time, she loved to spend it with those closest to her, hosting family gatherings, baking with her grandchildren and gardening. She was known to play a game of pitch or spend a few bucks at the casinos. Laurie had an artistic side and a wonderful eye for design. Her family will miss her holiday decorating and the warmth and welcoming nature of her home where she always had a fresh pot of coffee ready for anyone who may walk through her door. Laurie is survived by her mother, Pat, and her god knows how many siblings: Randy Martelle (Darlene), Candace Baker (Matthew), Jean Mattison (Bruce), Dawn Doty (Paul), David Martelle, Phillip "Rusty" Martelle, and Kathy Beaver. She leaves behind her children - Emily Grace Cenate (Vincent), Joseph Patrick Cenate (Roseann), Jaimie Leigh Cenate, Eugene Earl Cenate the 4th (Krista), and Samantha Jean Cenate Warrington (Jimmy) ;her precious grandchildren - Lillian, Angela, Maddison, Lucas, and Lucille - countless nieces, nephews, in-laws, and people she called family both by birth, and by choice. Laurie is predeceased by her father Red, her sister-in-law, Karen Martelle, her nephews, Adam Martelle and Corey Martindale and her beloved former stepson Jeffry Cenate. All members of the community are welcome to attend services, as we bid farewell to one of the most genuinely beautiful souls to have ever graced this earth. Calling hours will be Friday, November 17th, at the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, NY, from 2:00–4:00 PM and 7:00–9:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at the same location on Saturday, November 18th, at 11:00 AM, with interment to follow at the Wells Town Cemetery in Wells, VT. A celebration of life will be held at the Telescope Casual Furniture Showroom, 82 Church St., Granville, NY. Donations can be made to her children, who will use the funds for a donation in her name to Fort Hudson Home Health Agency. In honor of Laurie, we would like you all to participate in a random act of kindness and always "call a spade a spade". Online condolences may be made at www.robertmkingfuneralhome.com
