Dorothy L. McCullen Granville, NY - Dorothy L. McCullen, 86, passed away at home on Saturday, December 9, 2017 with her family by her side. Dorothy was born on April 11, 1931 in Granville, NY, the daughter of Joseph and Emma Matteson Dennison. She was a graduate of Granville High School in 1948. Upon graduation, Dorothy began work as a legal secretary for Albert Berkowitz in Granville and worked there for over sixty years. Dorothy married James McCullen in July of 1956 and created a home on Mettowee Street in Granville where they raised their children. She was devoted to her family, and enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends by the pool. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Granville Women's Republican Club and a communicant of St Mary's Roman Catholic Church of Granville. Dorothy was an avid reader and had a great sense of humor. She also enjoyed going to Curves and cherished the friendships that she made there. She will be remembered and missed by the many people whose lives she touched. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 61 years, James McCullen, two daughters, Tracey Cahill of Ledyard, CT, Allison Kohl and her husband Niels of Hopewell Junction, NY, and a son, Gary McCullen and his wife Tara of Alpharetta, GA. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Sean Cahill of Warwick, RI, Scott Cahill of Gales Ferry, CT, Kathryn McCullen and Emily McCullen of Dallas, GA, Elizabeth McCullen of Atlanta, GA, and Megan Kohl and Brent Kohl of Hopewell Junction, NY, as well as two great grandchildren, Paige Cahill of Ledyard, CT and Caleb Cahill of Warwick, RI. Dorothy was the oldest of 12 children. She is survived by one sister, Helen Peters and her husband, Fred Peters of Eagle Bridge, NY and two sister-in-laws, Erla Dennison and Bertha Dennison. She was predeceased by three sisters and seven brothers. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 12 PM at the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church Street, Granville, NY with Rev. Joseph Arockiasamy presiding. The family suggests that any memorial contributions be made to The Alzheimer's Association or a charity of one's choice.
