Obituary of Sherry R Mercado

With great sadness we announce the passing of Sherry R (Paddock) Mercado , 70 at home peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2025. She had been battling abdomen problems , COPD, and CHF (congestive heart failure). Born November 19th, 1954, she was the daughter of Daniel and Doris (Cook) Paddock, her siblings include Joan, Gene, and Gail. She had 4 children listed oldest to youngest Daryl Peterson, Nicole Peterson,Regina (Mercado) Palmer and Ryan Mercado, who all were the loves of her life. Sherry was predeceased by her parents; 2 brothers, Gene Daniel and Gene David, and several aunts and uncles. Survivors include sisters; Joan Carruth and Gail Paddock. daughters; Nicole Peterson and Regina (Mercado) Palmer, her husband Donald. Only grandchild; Izabel Palmer. sons; Daryl Peterson and Ryan Mercado. nieces; Christina Pitts, Theresa Carruth and Vanessa Carruth. nephew; Daniel Pitts . Extended family; Kevin Russell, Tim Colburn and Tracy Nash ,along with her 4 beloved cats. Also to the many family members that lived far away she may not have seen but still loved. She was the only one of the 4 children to attend college and graduate. She was so smart and she took medical transcription and worked for years doing that. She also was a receptionist/Osha regulations controller at a slate quarry on Rt #22. Sherry spent a few years in CA and NY City , but was home in Granville for the majority of her life surrounded by farm animals , peacocks, cats, and family. She loved her wild birds and always had bird feeders set up. She could be found near a river, ocean or pool during the summer as she loved the water and she even water skied in her younger years. She loved to read and had some poems published. The family card games were another thing she loved to play with King ped, being one of her favorite pastimes, and she was great at it. Family was always an important part of her life and as a single parent made the best of it. She had the biggest hugs and such a welcoming smile no matter what she was going through. She will be dearly missed by all. A special shout out to her caregiver Diane Varney for the great care and friendship she provided for Sherry in her final years and loving her like family.We also want to send a thank you to the rescue squad , North Granville fire dept, and the state troopers all for their fast , caring, and professional help on that terrible night. A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 1-3 PM at the Robert M King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville.
