Margaret C. Bernard Granville, NY – Margaret C. Bernard, 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Slate Valley Center in North Granville. Peg was born on December 29, 1926 in Granville, NY the first child of Louis and Anna (Williams) Priest. Her father died when she was 11, so she started working before and after school to help her mother raise her seven siblings. She graduated from Granville High School in 1944. Peg married Ralph "Midge" Bernard on January 20, 1952. They had six children. She worked for Sherwood Medical in Argyle for many years, and at the same time was the co-owner and cook with her husband at their restaurant, The White Rock in South Granville. Somehow, she still found time to tirelessly raise her children, attending every important event, ceremony, Dr. appointment and sports game. Though she complained that she was constantly forced to watch baseball on television, she became as avid a New York Yankee fan as her husband. When he and their eldest son purchased a Yankees minor league team in Albany, she of course, travelled down there to work at the ball park right after her regular job. It took a heart attack and quadruple bypass surgery in her mid-seventies to get Peg to reluctantly retire. She immediately put all her energy into caring for her grandchildren. Although a little easier with the discipline, she picked up right where she left off with her kids, making sure the grand kids had absolutely everything they needed. She was still preparing meals as if she was feeding a house full, prodding everyone to have seconds and her famous Polka Daters and Blonde Brownies. Additionally, and above all, she stuck up for every member of her family in every situation. Peg was predeceased by her sisters: Shirley Wescott and Lorena Rogers, brothers Jay, Ray, Louis and William Priest, her husband Ralph, and most recently by her beloved son Ralph "Midge" Bernard who visited her several times a week during her long stay the Slate Valley. She is survived by, daughters Gale Bernard and DeeDee (Buzzy) McKeighan, sons: Ben Bernard (Lori) Steve Bernard (Brooke) and Dan Bernard (Sandy). She was blessed with her granddaughters: Bianca Gusto, Angie Trigestad, Melissa Bernard, Nicole Bernard, Jessica Bogart and Leanne Lourie and her grandsons: Christopher Full, Ryan Full, Allen Bogart, Derek Bernard, Erik Bernard, D. J. Bernard, Matt Bernard, Alex Bernard, Anthony Bernard and Noah Bernard, great grandchildren Allen and Joseph Bogart, Zachary Vanderminden, Connor Gregorio, Dillon and Jenna Tooley, Austin, Jackson and Max Trigestad, Ryan and Madelyn Full, Lily Krueger and several nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her sister Elsie McGraw. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to the Robert M King Funeral Home, 23 Church St, Granville, NY. Online condolences may be made at www.robertmkingfuneralhome.com.
